Japan has a high population density and limited land, coupled with being a seismic region, leading to strict seismic building regulations and higher construction costs. Consequently, rental fees are relatively high. Especially in central Nagoya, where your residence is located, the costs are further elevated. However, when compared to Tokyo or Osaka, the expenses are considerably lower. Generally, for properties suitable for solo living in Nagoya, upscale options range around ¥80,000 to ¥100,000 per month, middle-class options around ¥50,000 to ¥70,000 per month, and lower-class options around ¥30,000 to ¥50,000 per month."
When renting a property independently, you typically need to arrange it through a real estate agent, and in some cases, a guarantor may be required. Initial payments may include broker fees, security deposit, key money, guarantee deposit, fire insurance, and various other items. The total of these can be equivalent to 1 to 3 months' rent. Rental units usually come without any appliances or furniture, so when factoring in the cost of purchasing these items, it can amount to a significant expense, approximately around ¥300,000. Furthermore, upon termination of the lease, you are responsible for tasks such as organizing and repairing items you brought in, fulfilling the obligation of 'restoration to the original state.' This can be a substantial financial and emotional burden."
To alleviate both the financial and mental burden on our students, our school provides student dormitories. These dormitories are conveniently located within a 10-minute walk from the school building. Each room is equipped with lighting, a desk and chair, curtains, a gas stove, refrigerator, washing machine, microwave, rice cooker, electric kettle, bed/mattress, pillows, comforter, and network facilities. Students can arrive in Japan with their luggage and easily settle into their accommodation, quickly adapting to their new study-abroad life. Moreover, in case of any issues during the stay, students can directly contact the school for prompt assistance.
